Do you experience pain whilst engaging in activities or work that require repetitive motion? You might have tendinopathy
What is tendinopathy?
Tendinopathy may present in areas of strain where no clear mechanism or injury has taken places like a fracture, strain, or other inflammatory condition. There might be a restriction in movement, local tenderness with pain is usually sharp, and replicable when the tendon is placed under load. It can be broken into 2 categories:
Tendinitis – acute inflammatory characterized by the presence of inflammatory cells
Tendinosis – a degenerative process resulting in incomplete/failed tendon healing characterized by disorganized collagen fiber.
Tendinopathy is one of those conditions that may not present with pain initially and may take some time to manifest up to 2 weeks after the trauma took place. It is particularly prevalent in amateur athletes, weekend warriors, and those with an occupation that requires repetitive movements.
Depending on the tendon affected- the way healing is quite clear: management with a physical therapist. With the use of mobilizations, soft tissue therapies, dry needling, and rehabilitation, manual therapists such as a Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, and Occupational therapists are primed to manage these types of conditions
