What is tendinopathy?
Tendinopathy may present in areas of strain where no clear mechanism or injury has taken places like a fracture, strain, or other inflammatory condition. There might be a restriction in movement, local tenderness with pain is usually sharp, and replicable when the tendon is placed under load. It can be broken into 2 categories:
Tendinitis – acute inflammatory characterized by the presence of inflammatory cells
Tendinosis – a degenerative process resulting in incomplete/failed tendon healing characterized by disorganized collagen fiber.
Tendinopathy is one of those conditions that may not present with pain initially and may take some time to manifest up to 2 weeks after the trauma took place. It is particularly prevalent in amateur athletes, weekend warriors, and those with an occupation that requires repetitive movements.
Depending on the tendon affected- the way healing is quite clear: management with a physical therapist. With the use of mobilizations, soft tissue therapies, dry needling, and rehabilitation, manual therapists such as a Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, and Occupational therapists are primed to manage these types of conditions
